When Leading for Kids was founded in 2018, it was with a vision of creating a society where the well-being of children was centered in all our decisions. One of the decisions that many of us have the privilege to make is which charitable causes we want to support. What would it be like if everyone made their giving decisions with the best interests of kids in mind? I am very excited to let you know that we are starting a new initiative to encourage exactly this kind of thinking – Giving for Kids. Giving for Kids is a new pledge program and online community where we hope to bring donors together to share their excitement about the support of the issues they care about and inspire others to do the same. Giving for Kids was founded:

  • To heighten public visibility of the issues around the health and well-being of children
  • To increase charitable commitment to these issues by mobilizing a broadened group of donors
  • To create a virtual community of peers who pledge to prioritize kids in their giving- and inspire others to do the same
  • To set a new precedent in the world of philanthropy by being the US’s first pledge program for kids and youth causes

Here is how Giving for Kids works:

  • Individuals or families who are ready to make a public pledge that the majority of their giving will go to nonprofits that work to improve the lives of our next generation can take the Giving for Kids pledge at our website. Pledgers will be able to share a photo, and their own personal giving story: What issues are they interested in supporting? How do they feel they benefit from supporting these causes? How do they hope to inspire others? This information will be posted on the website in a gallery of pledgers and will inspire others to consider the same questions when they give.
  • There are no net worth requirements to take the Giving for Kids pledge. It is important to understand that pledge is defined as a “promise” or “commitment” and is not legally binding. There are no minimum contribution requirements.
  • Giving for Kids is not a fund, and will not solicit donations or suggest where pledgers should give. Our job is simply to celebrate those who give with kids in mind.
  • Pledgers will be invited to join a private and secure online community where they can connect with other pledgers and join issue specific discussion groups. There will be no advertising or fundraising, but plenty of opportunities to get engaged!

There is an FAQ at our website with even more information. I hope you will take a look and consider taking the Giving for Kids pledge yourself and join our community. I also hope you will share this opportunity with any of your friends and family who feel the same way about prioritizing kids that you do! If you have any questions, please reach out to me at david.alexander@leadingforkids.org. Together, we can start a new movement that will put renewed energy into Giving for Kids. Thanks for all you do!
